Biography of Pete Bethell

Pete cannot remember when he started playing but remembers buying his first guitar in1963. He began his music career on the  Folk scene – playing material by the likes of Bob Dylan, Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seeger. He recalls a TV appearance in 1968, alongside a certain Marc Bolan and the very early incarnation of Tyrannosaurus Rex (later ‘T-Rex’).
Pete was a session player on many folk LPs during the 70s including several by the legendary Jack Hudson. He also did session work for Bob McKinlay and Graham Broughton.

Pete Bethell from The Vanguards DuoIn the mid 1970's Pete Bethell joined the Graham Broughton band, playing acoustic Country material (John Denver etc.) and in 1978 appeared at Wembley Conference Centre.

Pete toured with Jet Harris in the late 80’s, becoming Jet’s backing band for a while with Stroller’s drummer Les Payne and Pete Nelson.
It was in the early 1980's that they became Stroller and worked extensively on the UK Country circuit performing at many festivals and venues such as Harrogate Royal Hall and the Harrogate Conference Centre.

Having toured the UK extensively for many years Pete re-joined Graham Broughton until Graham’s retirement in 2004. In 2005 Pete formed the Country duo ‘Stroll On’ with Ian Cooke who now also perform a sixties show under the name of 'The Vanguards'.
