The Vanguards Musical Duo are based in Lancashire in the North West UK
Ian Cooke - Bass / lead vocals / harmony vocals / drum programming / recording engineer / makes the tea.
Ian plays a Yamaha B2005 5-string active bass, a Microfrets Thundermaster 4-string bass, a Fender Jazz fretless bass and (when pushed, or for a lark) a Hagstrom 8-string bass. Aplification is Hartke 2 x 250 bass head, with two 1 x 15 and two 4 x 10 Hartke cabs. Only used once in anger up to now (Southport Floral Hall, October 2006 when playing bass in ‘Ozzified’, the Ozzy Osbourne tribute band. Effects provided by Boss BX6 bass effects unit. Mikes by EV. Kettle by Tesco. Tea by Ringtons (Kenyan Gold tea bags).
Pete Bethell - Electric and Acoustic guitars / lead and Harmony vocals / oracle (concerning the music of the 1950s)
Pete plays a Fender Stratocaster (what else!) and a Taylor acoustic on stage. He also keeps a Ovation acoustic (70’s vintage) and a Fender Telecaster (due for a re-furb) as part of his retirement investment package (was gutted when his classic A35 van had to be scrapped). Amplification by Peavey (but watch this space). Effects by Boss. Sorry, effect by Boss. (Nice chorus, Pete!) Mike by Peavey. Hair by Just For Men.
PA system by Mackie. 1.9k rig consisting Mackie 12-channel desk with built-in echo, SRM 450 powered full-range speakers and SRM 550 bass bins (used in the larger venues). Wharfedale powered foldback. Tascam mini-disc player. Alesis drum machine (for ‘Alice’ in particular). We can also supply background music, and even ballroom dancing (on CD) as our PA includes a professional twin CD player. Ian is also able to compère and help with raffles / draws etc. and generally to help your evening run smoothly and professionally.
